Food Gifts Simplify My Life

without comments

I am not a shopping enthusiast. Except around the winter holidays, I hate the parking problems, I don’t enjoy browsing aisle after aisle looking for something that would be honestly appreciated by Grandma or Uncle Arthur. I certainly do not like standing on line with frustrated people waiting for the lone employee to handle yet another exchange. During the holidays, I enjoy strolling through stores just people watching, without being weighted down with packages. The experience for whatever reason puts me into a holiday mood, but I do my actual shopping and buying almost entirely online. That’s a practice I developed in the very early years of the Web.

While online shopping keeps me from being pushed around in a busy department store or standing in line at a little boutique, it doesn’t keep me from the most dreaded part of any gift giving event; choosing the right gift for a birthday, a holiday, a sick friend or whomever. Then about five years ago, I discovered food.

Of course, I actually discovered food when I was still an infant, but it didn’t occur to me as a great gift until I had suffered through many rounds of birthdays, baby showers, and countless other events that seem to always pop up. I received a gift basket of little sausages, spreadable cheeses and plain crackers. It was terrible! At the same time, though, I thought what a great gift this could have been. All they had to change in the gift was the quality of the contents!

Since that moment of momentous insight on my part, I have been a dedicated sampler of a variety of food gifts that I buy for myself on the Internet. I have found that the online gift food stores handle everything from shipping to the accompanying gift cards. Yes, I actually send myself a gift card to test the store’s dedication to detail. The Internet boutiques are now the sources for all of my gifts, except those gifts of my loved ones who happen to live very nearby.

These Internet shops offer everything from gourmet fruit baskets to live lobster dinners (well, they won’t be alive when they are actually eaten), from wine gift baskets to cookie bouquets. The array of gift foods is really quite amazing.

I do keep gift foods around the house, beautifully or cleverly arranged, for my guests who come to my house or for those whom I visit in person during those gift giving times. The Internet provides assistance to me even in these cases, because it is packed full of great ideas for arranging and wrapping gift food.

If you happen to see me walking down a store aisle with a smile on my face when everybody else seems frantic, you will now know my secret. But don’t tell my Uncle Arthur.

Helping You Decide When To Give A Gift Basket

without comments

gift basket

Remember the Old Testament story of Moses’ mother putting him in a wicker basket and hiding it among the reeds in the water? Or you may have read about the pagan goddess, Eostre, who carried young plants as a basket gift for a sacred offering. This shows that the practice of giving a gift basket to family and friends is not a new idea; it has been around for a while.

One of the most appealing things about baskets as gifts is that they are useful as well. You can present your gift in the basket, but it can also be used later by the person you gave the gift to. There are many different ways that you can use baskets as gifts for everyone on your list. They are perfect if you need a corporate gift, baby gift baskets, a wine gift basket or a gift basket for Christmas. You can fill them with everything from flowers to food.

It can be difficult coming up with an idea for a gift, but if you have been invited to a housewarming, for example, then consider putting together a gift basket. You can include wine and perhaps cheese and crackers and consider adding a bottle of sparkling grape juice if they have kids, so that they will not feel left out. Perhaps add a few handyman do-it-yourself home repair books or something similar.

Of course, there are many different items that you can use when putting together a basket as a gift. Food gift baskets are very popular and can be filled with different types of food, including fruits, candy, cheeses etc. You can even go an extra mile and make it a gourmet food gift basket. No matter what you decide to fill it with, it will be appreciated as they will know you took the time to add your own personal touch.

Sometimes, how you present the gift is as important as the gift itself, which is one reason why a gift basket is such a great gift. The fact that you took the time and thought to put it together will mean a lot to the one you are giving it to. For example, if you need a great idea for a baby gift, then you may want to consider putting a basket together. Get a wicker basket and line it with a soft blanket or you can line it with a couple of those hooded towels for bath time and perhaps add a few soft baby wash cloths. You can then add some baby shampoo, baby oil, baby lotion and baby powder, little baby socks and a few sleepers and some diapers, and perhaps a bath time toy. It will be appreciated.

Give A Food Gift

Christmas gift baskets for

What makes a food gift so popular? Perhaps it is due to the fact that many holidays or events are associated with food. Chocolates for Valentine’s Day, turkeys are often associated with Thanksgiving and Christmas, and Christmas cookies are always on the menu. Food gift baskets are a great gift to give to people that you don’t know very well, as you can include a few items that pretty much everyone likes or you can make it more personal by putting all of their favorite things together.

Giving this type of gift can be fairly inexpensive, yet it will still show you cared enough to take the time to put it together. For example, if you need gifts for your coworkers, then use a recipe for simple spiced party nuts and create different ways to wrap them. You can use a mesh materiel tied up with a pretty bow or go to the dollar store and buy several different types of tins or bottles. Be sure to give everyone a different wrap and they will be a big hit.

A gift that is always appreciated is one that shows you put some real thought into it, which is one reason why a food gift is a great idea. If you need a gift for someone that you know enjoys coffee or cappuccino, then try amassing several different flavors and then put enough for a few cups in a container, that way you can give several different people the flavored coffees as well. Or you can gather ingredients for home made soup and put the ingredients into an oversized mug; just use your imagination.

For the holidays, consider putting together some Christmas gift baskets for friends and relatives. Be creative in your choices; it shows them how much you appreciate them when you take the time to put something like this together. Fruit baskets are a great idea for grandparents and for the wine connoisseur on your list, consider giving them a wine gift basket.

Everyone knows that the smell of gingerbread baking is a sure sign that the Christmas holidays are here, so why not expand on that for some of your gift giving needs. For example, you can gather all the ingredients together that are needed for gingerbread cookies, place them in a basket with your favorite gingerbread recipe. Or you can go the extra mile and bake a gingerbread house, which is a great idea for a food gift that will be enjoyed by everyone.
