Children’s Birthday Parties Are For The Old People

without comments

When I was younger in School living on my own, my roommates and I used to come up with the best party ideas. We would search through thrift stores to create theme parties that went over and above like our very own space party that had rooms with mattresses covering the floors, walls covered in aluminum foil, black lights and glow-in-the-dark paint everywhere.

I could be a bit older and have a young newborn who has an imminent 1st birthday celebration. I might have hosted some silly parties in my younger days but I have not thrown a children party and I imagine it could be a little different.

Fortunately there are shops that specialize in nothing but party supplies, the ideal 1 stop shop to snatch party decorations, party balloons and other party accessories.

With my experience creating impressive theme parties while in University I knew I couldn’t give anything but the best to my small one years old girl. She asked for a princes party so that was what she was going to get.

The party venue was to our backyard, which had a respectable sized play area. This would be my canvas. I got my daughter a princess outfit and my wife and I’d dress as king and queen. I notified all of the other youngsters and parents who would be joining and asked to dress accordingly.

After a large amount of online searching I found a pink jumping castle that happened to appear like the Disney Castle. Around it we constructed a walkway that doubled as a slip and slide. At our local party decoration and birthday decoration supply shop I found medieval decorations from knights and stone framed stain glass windows to trees and small lovable trolls that would hang under a padded bridge I was building over the watered slip and slide. The catering company I hired would only be using genuine medieval food for the adults and baby food that looked like porridge for the kids. A pony ride was also contracted for the tiny knights and damsels to ride around on. I understand that many of these decorations would be lost on the small children but how could I do anything less for my daughter.

Planning Your Kid’s First Birthday Party? Here’s How!

without comments

When it’s time to plan for your baby’s 1st birthday party, you may be a little confused and overwhelmed, especially if it’s your first child and you’ve never thrown a kid’s birthday party before. Which theme for the party? Where should I have the party/ Where is the best place to get first birthday party supplies? Who should be invited? How long should the party take? What will you serve?

It’s perfectly natural if you don’t know exactly what to do for your baby’s 1st birthday. Older kids’ birthday parties are full of friends, fun games, and party favors, and they can go on for hours. Babies don’t know what’s going on at their birthday parties–they won’t remember them.Party supplies for babies are slightly different than the supplies and decorations for an older child’s party also.

A baby’s first birthday party is really for the adults who love him or her. So much has been packed into that first year of your baby’s life and their 1st birthday is the time for everyone to come together and celebrate the baby’s birth and everything he or she has achieved in just one year. The party planning might include some crafts and games that you won’t usually find at older kids’ birthdays.

For instance, you might want to include getting poster-board and PostIt notes on your list of 1st birthday party plans. Tape photos of your child’s milestones on the poster-board, such as the day he or she came home from the hospital, their first check-up, first tooth, first steps, and ask your guests to write what dates they think the pictures were taken.

Still, birthday party supplies should also include many of the traditional party items, such as invitations and Thank You notes, tableware (plates, cups, forks, napkins), balloons, ribbons, and crepe paper. When it comes to 1st birthday party supplies though, you may not want to use typical balloons that can be popped and break into pieces that pose a choking hazard for the baby. Mylar balloons don’t break when punctured, thus they are perfect for a safe first bithday party.

The guest list for your baby’s 1st birthday party might include a couple other babies, but most of the guests will be adults, like the baby’s grandparents, aunts and uncles, and close friends of the family. If you do invite other babies, you should limit yourself to inviting only 2 to 3. Then do you choose  a neutral theme or choose a boy’s or girl’s 1st birthday party theme . Considering other guests while making this decision is vital.

For a baby’s birthday party, you may only have 1½  or 2 hours before the baby gets overstimulated and cranky. It is not necessary to include a meal, but finger foods should usually be on your list of party supplies. You ought to try to schedule your party around your baby’s normal nap schedule. Consider starting the party during your baby’s nap and doing the games while he or she is napping if you’re planning party games for adult guests.

Time Tested Tips for a Fantastic First Birthday Party

without comments

Before you know it, your little baby will be turning one and well on his or her way to toddlerhood. Many moms (and dads alike) stress out over throwing a first birthday party. Since it’s such a momentous occasion, there’s a lot of pressure to make everything perfect. However, it's sometimes best to keep things simple and enjoyable for you and everyone else.

For a first birthday, simple is the name of game. Leave the 30-person parties at Chuck-E-Cheese for future birthdays. A few close friends and family members and a party at home are all a one-year old needs to enjoy his or her special day.

Start your planning by making the guest list. Besides you and your spouse, you should include any other people that are particularly important in your child’s life. Grandparents and other caregivers should be invited, of course. Beyond that, it’s up to you how many people you want to include.

You may decide to limit it to just a handful of people, or include a few special friends. Because everyone will want to hold and see the child during the birthday party, keeping things small will allow your child to see everyone without getting too overwhelmed. Another added benefit of keeping it small is that there is less food to prepare and fewer people to entertain.

The next thing to decide on is your theme. For a first birthday party, most people like to keep things simple. You can stick to a blue if your child is a boy and pink if your child is a girl, and easily get your party supplies for cheap. There’s no need to make your child’s birthday an advertisement for a character that they will barely recognized. Colored paper plates, napkins and cups are a lot cheaper than the commercial variety, too! These can be easily found online or at your local discount stores.

The time that you hold your child’s first birthday party is very important. Most one year olds take naps twice a day. Plan your party for in between these two times. Unless your child has unusual schedule, sometime around lunch should work just fine.

Serve food that your one-year-old will enjoy, and then serve grown up versions for everyone else. For example, make fruit kabobs for the party guests, and then serve your child cut up fruit pieces. You can serve a sandwich platter with rolls for the guests, and give your child bits of the different types of food.

Finally, your child’s first birthday wouldn’t be complete without the birthday cake. If you want to get some great shots of your child digging into the cake, consider baking a smaller, low-sugar cake for them and then having a sheet cake for the guests. This way your child can have a relatively healthy treat, without putting fingerprints in everyone else’s dessert. You can buy a sheet cake from your local bakery or make one yourself the day before the party.

By keeping things simple, you’ll be able to give your child a first birthday party that is enjoyable for you and everyone involved.
